Lovely presentation and healthy plant

After having this plant for a little while I am concerned that it will survive. Many of it's leaves have turned brown and fallen off but I can see new growth so I remain hopeful. Thank you!

Featured Questions

How Fast Do Anthuriums Grow?

Anthuriums, often called Flamingo Flowers or Laceleaf Plants, are moderate growers when kept in the right environment. In ideal indoor conditions—bright, indirect light, consistent watering, and high humidity—Anthuriums can produce new leaves and blooms every few weeks to a couple of months.

Growth tends to be more active during the spring and summer, while it slows in cooler, darker months. With good care, these tropical plants will steadily expand their foliage and even bloom multiple times per year, making them a rewarding choice for long-term indoor greenery.

While not particularly fast-growing, Anthuriums are known for their long-lasting flowers and beautiful heart-shaped leaves, both of which can thrive for years with the right conditions.

How Do I Water My Anthurium?

Anthuriums prefer a watering routine that keeps their soil lightly moist but never soggy. A good rule of thumb is to water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. On average, this means watering every 7–10 days, though frequency may vary depending on the season and your home’s humidity.

Always use a pot with proper drainage to prevent excess moisture from accumulating, which can lead to root rot. After watering, allow the excess to drain completely and empty the saucer beneath the plant.

Anthuriums are also sensitive to water quality. If possible, use filtered, distilled, or rainwater—especially in areas with hard tap water, as excess salts and chemicals can harm the plant over time.

In drier environments or during warmer months, Anthuriums may benefit from increased humidity and more frequent checks for soil moisture. Their thick, tropical leaves and vibrant spathes will stay healthiest with a consistent, well-balanced watering routine.

ow Do I Get My Anthurium to Flower?

If your Anthurium isn't blooming, it may need a boost in care to mimic the tropical conditions it loves. These plants bloom best when they’re in a stable environment with:

Bright, Indirect Light: Anthuriums need plenty of light to produce their signature flowers, but avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves. Place them near a window with filtered light or in a bright room.

High Humidity: Native to rainforests, Anthuriums thrive in 60–80% humidity. Use a humidifier, mist the leaves regularly, or place the plant near a pebble tray to boost humidity.

Regular Feeding: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Anthurium once a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Choose a formula that supports flowering for best results.

Proper Watering and Temperature: Keep the soil consistently moist (not wet), and maintain a temperature between 65–80°F (18–27°C). Avoid placing the plant near cold drafts, heaters, or air conditioners.

A Slightly Root-Bound Pot: Anthuriums often bloom better when they are slightly root-bound, so don’t rush to repot unless the roots are severely overcrowded.
